Travel Agents Tips for Booking Groups

Booking Groups in travel is Big Business and can boost your business significantly.  For the same effort often to gain 1 client and book 1 trip why not  focus your efforts in gaining a new group that can pay you 10 times greater in commissions!

A lot of the tips were borrowed  from Travel Pulse.

Selling group travel can boost your business significantly, and an easy way to get started is by following the advice of travel advisors who specialize in the niche.

For Claudia Mace of Delray Beach, Fla.-Commodore Travel, “communication is key. “Whatever you’re involved with is a place to start communicating,” she said, noting local churches and wine clubs as examples. “Everybody has some sort of connection to somebody. You just have to start the dialogue.”

Pied Pipers

One of the best ways to generate a group is finding a Pied Piper—someone who has a following. “If you’re an established agent and have a client base, you [may] already have a point person for groups

Melissa Erskine of iDream Travel booked 280-plus travelers on a six-night Royal Caribbean cruise for spring break. All she did was propose the Caribbean cruise and its kids-sail-free promotion to a Pied Piper with a large Facebook following. “She got me in front of an audience of 130,000” Facebook users, Erskine said, adding that the Pied Piper also promoted the cruise within her own community. “Bookings exploded overnight.”

To promote the cruise, Erskine gradually released information and branding images that she created on the destination, itinerary and other aspects of the trip on social media throughout the year leading up to the departure date.

Social Media

Social media is also an important marketing tool for Gwiin Correa of Memorable Moments Travel . She creates a marketing plan that includes posting photos and information about the cruise or resort, as well as the destination, to her 1,000 Facebook followers, who repost them on Instagram.

For a girls’ getaway package at Beaches Turks & Caicos, Correa designed a Facebook group for professional women and booked 25 people, eight of whom she knew and had invited via Facebook Events.

Supplier Support

In many cases, suppliers can make booking groups easier with dedicated group departments. “I find that certain cruise lines and tour operators are very friendly to groups and very agent-friendly,” Erskine said.

Other supplier-provided perks can include free accommodations after a certain number are paid for, tour conductor credits toward amenities like onboard credits and cocktail parties, and commissions on shore excursions for private groups, agents said.

There are benefits for clients, too. “Clients have a richer experience,” Correa said. “We all like to feel like we belong.”

The Challenges

Groups can often come with challenges, however. “You’re dealing with lots of different personalities—people who have different experiences with travel,” she said. “And you still have to deal with cancellations, keeping your space and being well organized.”

To make the process easier, Correa suggested using spreadsheets and setting up an organization system from day one.

For those agents just beginning to sell groups, she suggested looking for cruise line deals and “talking them up to anyone you know.”

She added, “I was on the Celebrity Edge’s inaugural and started talking to somebody who wants to charter a river cruise with us now. You never know who’s going to be at the end of that phone call or right across from you.”

Selling Tips

—Typically groups take nine months to a year to create. Gwiin Correa of Memorable Moments Travel suggested using spreadsheets and setting up an organization system from day one.

—Use Facebook Live to promote groups. Correa interviewed a cruise line business development manager on Facebook Live about Alaska cruising.“The next morning, I had six balcony cabins to book,” she said.

—Group rates are locked in, so clients who book closer to the departure date aren’t subject to rising fares.

Royal Caribbean International Invites Top Travelution Agents to Port Canaveral Space Center Fam

Travelution travel agentsts are back at at just one day after getting home from a Club Med  Sponsored Learning Event at Club Med Sand Piper Bay.

Travelution travel agents are different and they take the business of their travel clients deadly serious!

That is why so many are having extraordinary travel success with no travel agent backgrounds or experience.

Take Inocencia and Jerome Chisolm who spent the 4 Days with Royal Caribbean Strategic Business Development Manager Kelly Sackyrd and their fellow Travelution agent veteran Ray Steen with Sandee Beach Travel.   ino_and_jerome_royal

Inocencia and Jerome Chisolm with Signature Cruise and Travel had no prior background in travel prior to Travelution.  Jerome, a hard working programmer was laid off from his job and the couple struggled to take care of their family with one income.   They relied on their faith and belief in God and each other to get past the hard times.  Little did they know that their faith and close involvement with their church and ministries across the country would develop into  enthusiastic groups of travelers resulting in close to a half million dollars in group cruises and all-inclusive get-aways.

When you ask Inocencia Chisolm what is the secret to their swift success in their travel business she says, “We open our mouths and share our enthusiasm!”

I can tell you from personal experience and being along side Inocencia and Jerome on 5 group Fams “familiarization trips” and educational travel events I have attended with this super couple- there is much more to the secret of their success.  They go to the “next level” and do it “all” for their client- whether it is going down the Abyss on Harmony of the Sea, ziplining, experiencing the flow-rider on Harmony of the Sea or kissing stingrays in the Cayman Islands.  This couple and their fellow agent Ray Steen will do it all for their clients!  The only way to fully service their travel clients is “experience the travel first hand” so theycan give an accurate description and be an informed travel adviser who their travel clients can rely on.

After 3 nights in Club Med Sandpiper Bay, the next day Inocencia and Jerome Chisolm along with fellow Travelution agent Ray Steen enbarked on a 4 day travel learning adventure sponsored by Royal Caribbean and super strategic business manager Kelly Sakyrd.    The Space Coast Fam included 2 Royal Caribbean cruise inspections on Majesty of the Sea and super ship Oasis of the Sea which has moved to the Port Canaveral Port.  The travel tribe also explored the local port hotels like Hilton, Radison, Courtyard Marriott of Cape Canaveral, Best Western Cocoa Beach,  the Homewood Suites Cocoa Beach and Surfside Hotel, a fun and trendy beach front hotel.

The NASA Kennedy Space Center visit was part of the outstandingly well planned out fam “Familiarization Trip” to not only orient our Travelution agents with the Port Canaveral Royal Caribbean ships and port hotels but with the local attractions like the Cocoa Beach Pier and Pelican’s Bar and Grill, a local favorite on the pier with great food and fun.

This is going “above and beyond” for their clients.  This is what sets Travelution agents apart- and this is how our agents take their business seriously and have fun at the same time!

Thank you kindly to Royal Caribbean and our amazing bdm business development manager for putting this amazing Fam “familiarization trip” together.  Thank you to our amazing agents Inocencia and Jerome Chisolm and Ray Steen for taking your business seriously and being great ambassadors of travel and of Travelution.

Next up with Royal Caribbean is a 50 person Ship inspection of the Oasis of the Sea on December 18th and we can’t wait!

Club Med Sponsors Travelution University Agent Learning Event

Travelution Agents experienced an amazing travel and learning experience this past weekend at Club Med Sandpiper Bay.

Travelution agents got to learn all about the Club Med’s 65 resorts around the world while they personally engaged and experienced all that Club Med Sand Piper Bay has to offer.   Fam or familiarization trips allow travel agents to learn all the features of a resort property so they can professionally and thoroughly share their knowledge about the resort to their travel client.

Travelution agents pride themselves on the “family-atmosphere” and personal interaction with corporate and other travel agents who work to help one another.

This is the 2nd invitation from Club Med this year to expose new Travelution travel agents to the Club Med experience.  The event was huge success for all.
